Peig McManus was born into the last of the Dublin tenements in North King Street in the early 1940s and moved to Cabra West as a young child. She recorded her remarkable life in her acclaimed 2023 memoir I Will Be Good. A woman before her time, Peig faced down class barriers to blaze a trail for social and educational reform in Ireland.
